Is It Right For You?
Cabling, or bracing, is an effort to support weak, vulnerable, large trunks or limbs by anchoring them to each other (or to stronger areas of the tree). Proper support can often delay a tree from splitting or breaking for many years.
It’s a tricky process, however, because improper techniques can cause more harm than good. Not all trees are good candidates for this procedure. If safety is the issue, it might be better to remove the weak limbs, or even the entire tree.
Cables or braces, once installed, must be inspected regularly. Consult a qualified tree service to determine if cabling is right for you.
